India's already "weak" FTA outcomes may worsen if it takes obligations in the new issues, the report -- FTAs: Fabulous, Futile, or Flawed? An evaluation of India's FTAs with ASEAN, Japan and South Korea -- said. It added that like many developing countries, India has an evolving regulatory framework on most new issues. He was involved in the negotiations process of India's free trade agreements with Japan and Australia. Citing an example, it said, if India's exports fail to meet the stringent environment or labour obligations specified in the agreement, India's apparel exports may become ineligible for benefits under the pact.

Quarantine clearance received for 8 cheetahs in Kuno National Park

After getting clearance from the concerned ministry, two male cheetahs were released in a acclimatisation enclosure of Kuno in Madhya Pradesh's Sheopur district on Saturday, an official said. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Kuno Circle Prakash Kumar Verma told ANI, "After the completion of the quarantine period of the cheetahs brought from Namibia, two male cheetahs have been released in a big enclosure. "The Cheetahs brought from Namibia and introduced in Kuno National Park on September 17 are healthy, alert, vigilant, active and taking normal diet, normal Water and defecation. On the occasion of his birthday, PM Modi reintroduced cheetahs brought from Namibia in Kuno National Park as part of his efforts to revitalise and diversify the country's and habitat. Taliban violating human rights, plunging economy to 'dire' conditions: UN

The U.N. General Assembly adopted a resolution Thursday accusing the of violating the human rights of Afghan women and girls, failing to establish a representative government, and plunging the country into dire economic, humanitarian and social conditions. Germany's U.N. ambassador, Antje Leendertse, had hoped the 193-member General Assembly would approve the German-facilitated resolution by consensus. Introducing the resolution, Leendertse told the assembly that the Taliban control the country but aren't living up to their responsibility toward meeting the needs of the Afghan people. The resolution is a clear call to respect, protect and fulfill human rights, develop inclusive governance and fight terrorism, she said. The resolution expresses deep concern at human rights abuses against women and girls, including sexual violence, and calls on the Taliban to promote full, equal, meaningful and safe participation of women in all aspects of Afghan society.

1.52 mn foreigners visited India in 2021, highest from US: Officials

A total of 15,24,469 foreigners visited between January 1 and December 31, 2021. As many as 36,451 citizens from Afghanistan, 33,864 nationals from Australia, 33,772 from Germany, 32,064 from Portugal and 30,374 citizens of France visited India during 2021, the official said. Scheduled international flights from India to international destinations remained suspended for two years from March 25, 2020, till March 27, 2022. During this period, international flights were operated only under the 'air-bubble' arrangements, the official said. There were visa restrictions too on foreigners travelling to India after the coronavirus outbreak.

World leaders expressed sadness and condolences after at least 151 people were killed in a crowd surge Saturday night in Seoul, South Korea. North Korea warns US of 'powerful' response to allied drills with S. Korea

North Korea's latest statement came just days after the country fired two short-range ballistic missiles into the sea, extending a barrage of launches since late September. Some of those launches have been described by the North as simulated nuclear attacks on South Korean and US targets. has said its testing activities are meant as a warning amid the joint military drills. In comments attributed to an unidentified spokesperson, the North Korean Foreign Ministry statement said the military drills exposed the as the chief culprit in destroying peace and security.
