Lawyer Jocelyn Pesquera, Cebu City Tourism Commission chief, said this year's planned initiatives target a wider international audience and would focus on festivals that are widely celebrated. In summer, the commission would launch watersports tourism at the city’s new business district at the South Road Properties (SRP).

PBBM orders e-visa extension for China, S. Korea, Japan, India

Visa upon arrivalMeantime, Manalo said the DFA has a program for certain Chinese nationals who could avail of the visa-upon-arrival. Other foreign nationals, including Americans, Japanese, Australians, Canadians and Europeans, may also get a 14-day visa upon arrival, Garafil said. From February to December 2022, the Philippines welcomed around 2.65 million visitors comprised of 2.02 million foreign tourists and 628,445 Filipinos overseas, based on the data released by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO). Short-term strategic recommendationsMarcos, Garafil said, suggested that the DICT may accept India’s offer to use its application for visa requirements.

Pres Marcos brings home stronger ASEAN, SKor, Canada ties

He met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on different days for bilateral discussions. South Korea, for its part, agreed to elevate relations with the Philippines for security and infrastructure. With the meeting, South Korea is positioned to be the second partner of the Philippines with a free-trade setup after Japan. Attending at least 12 summits, Marcos raised some pressing concerns of the Philippines and of the ASEAN member states. To recall, this is Marcos’ first time to attend the ASEAN Summits since assuming the presidency in June.

"We should remember that the primary role of the police is generally not crowd management," said Martyn Amos, a professor at Northumbria University who works on crowd simulation.

"The Barakah nuclear power plant carries large symbolic meaning as a representation of the special strategic partnership between South Korea and the UAE." The Barakah nuclear power plant project, which was won by South Korea in 2009, is also the first civilian nuclear power plant in the Middle East. "Based on the success of Barakah, South Korea and the UAE should join forces to produce greater achievements, such as through cooperation on additional nuclear power plants in the UAE and joint expansion overseas," Yoon said. President Mohamed hailed the special strategic partnership between the two countries, saying it has brought significant benefits to both nations and enabled cooperation in key sectors, including nuclear power.

(LEAD) N. Korea continues to provide ammunition to Russia in violation of UNSC sanctions: White House

John Kirby, strategic communications coordinator for the National Security Council, said the U.S. has shared its intelligence on the delivery of North Korean ammunition to Russia with the UNSC Panel of Experts on North Korea sanctions. "As we have stated previously, the arms transfers from the DPRK are in direct violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions. DPRK stands for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, North Korea's official name. The NSC official said the U.S. currently has no plan to pursue additional sanctions against North Korea when asked, but noted it was still an option. North Korea also continues to evade sanctions, Kirby noted, with the help of Russia and China.
