The 2022 FIFA Qatar World Cup sculpture is illuminated in downtown Doha, Qatar, Wednesday. Many other media have used this to say that 6,500 people died in World Cup stadiums, fueling wild social media conspiracy theories. The government says the figure takes the deaths of all foreign workers over the decade "and attributes it to the World Cup. According to Qatar, there were 37 deaths of foreign workers linked to World Cup sites and only three in "work-related accidents." And it wasn't surprising to hear that everybody associated everything in Qatar to the World Cup.
